Typical configuration of antenna measurement

Most common antennas measure their far-field radiation characteristics, such as pattern (amplitude, phase, polarization), sidelobe level, gain, frequency bandwidth, etc. This section defines the basic concepts of these measurements.
Figure 4 shows a typical configuration for measuring radiation characteristics. The basic step is to place a pair of transmitting or receiving source antennas in the far field position relative to the antenna to be measured (AUT). The antenna to be measured is mounted on a rotating platform to rotate the antenna to collect a large number of pattern sampling values, so as to realize the measurement of antenna radiation characteristics. Because the antenna is an electromagnetic open system, the test environment will have an impact on the measurement results, so it is necessary to choose the test site reasonably and realize the environment without reflection as far as possible, such as building a microwave anechoic chamber.
